Kim 's painting is focused on the artificial nature mediated by the desire of capitalism and the false nostalgia that nature produces and consumes like a commodity. The writer aims at the loss of nature and the indulgent desire of capitalism which produces and consumes nature as a commodity and the satire of fetishism, the fetish. As the romantic landscape is aimed at the metaphor of the original reality, his painting evokes sublime feelings beyond the real world.

김상균의 회화는 자본주의의 욕망이 매개하는 인공자연과 상품처럼 생산되고 소비되는 자연이 불러일으키는 거짓 향수에 그 초점이 맞춰져 있다. 작가는 자연에 대한 상실감과 함께 특히 자연을 상품처럼 생산하고 소비하는 자본주의의 무분별한 욕망과 페티시즘, 곧 물신에 대한 풍자를 겨냥한다. 낭만주의 풍경화가 원래 현실 이면의 메타포를 겨냥한 것인 만큼 그의 회화는 현실 세계를 넘어 숭고한 감정을 불러일으킨다.
